37 Signals has it figured out

Steve French
February 12, 2016

We love 37 Signals and we talk a lot about their ideas. Here’s a great presentation Jason Fried did for TED about how we waste time at work and ignore our instincts for establishing our own best practices.

Real world tales of surviving the recession
Feb 12, 2016

The livin’ may be easy but you still have to work
Feb 12, 2016

There are fewer people in the office, everyone starts daydreaming in the late afternoon heat, and holiday energy is vibrating from people leaving for a couple of weeks. Even if you’re not going on vacation this summer, there’s no doubt that productivity stops as soon as the sun’s rays hit you through the open window.

Do I have your attention? Do you think I can keep it?

Kolbe says we can spend a lot of time performing tasks or learning about things that appeal to us but are less willing to devote time to things we find less interesting. Similarly, while your Unique Ability might give you energy, life dictates that you still need to do things that fall into your less than Unique Ability categories.

Take some time to appreciate you

When I was a kid, we had snow days
Feb 12, 2016

The eastern half of Canada has seen its share of cancellations over the past couple of days due to a gigantic winter storm. Thanks to the Internet, I have lost the priviledge of snow days. It’s difficult to claim you couldn’t get to work when you regularly work from home.

We suggest saving all your work and email to a central server which is backed up offsite and in a secure way but it’s easier said than done. You forget not to save stuff to your computer and it crashes, you’re just starting and there are a million other things to pay for first, or there’s a flood or fire at your office and your server is destroyed.

Can't get away? Pretend you're on vacation
Feb 12, 2016
