We're hiring a Technology Specialist!
Infomatix is growing and we need someone to help us keep our clients happy and our projects on track.
Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Buy an iPhone 4S or upgrade my old iPhone to iOS5?
You’ve probably heard all the hype around the new iPhone 4S as it is Apple’s fastest selling device ever - pretty amazing given Apple’s track record of ‘magical’ product launches.
The iPhone 4S for the most part is an evolutionary device: it looks just like the iPhone 4 but as usual, Apple makes it faster, endows it with a better camera that can take some pretty amazing photos, and gives it some better battery life.
The real meat?
Go St. John's IceCaps!
We’re thrilled that St. John’s is getting a new AHL team - the St. John’s IceCaps!

And we created a shared calendar for the home games that you can add to your own calendar with a single click:

PSA: Beware of "Get your annual tax refund" CRA phishing scam
I got an email Friday night, supposedly from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), telling me that I got a refund - great news right?
Well, no so fast.
Check out this email:

Here are a couple of tips that alerted me and that you can keep an eye out for:
- The numbers don’t make sense: I owed (and already paid) CRA money this year.
- The CRA doesn’t ever send me email.
- The CRA and any other reputable bank or financial institution would never send my “Client number” in open text - I am not client 10293911.
But the real kicker was when I moused over the hyperlink that they wanted me to visit:

That certainly doesn’t look like the CRA! I bet once you get to this magical site, they ask you for your name, address, Social Insurance Number and telephone numbers. And in a few weeks, the creditors will start calling. For credit cards and loans that you did not open.
Save yourself the trouble!
Hopefully this helps you to avoid this scam and gives you some ammunition to keep yourself away from the baddies out there.
How about you? have you ever had any troubles with phishing scams like this? Sound off in the comments section below:

What you need to know about the Office 2011 for Mac update
Microsoft has released a service pack for Office 2011 for Mac which was released last fall. For all you Apple fans who have already gotten the swing of the new features, there are now a bunch of things to make your experience even better.
Andrew Edney at Usingwindowshomeserver.com outlines the highlights:
- Rules functionality is improved. This update introduces support for Microsoft Exchange-based Server-Side rules.
- Resend functionality is included. This update reintroduces functionality to resend an email message to the same or new recipients.
- Redirect functionality is included. This update reintroduces functionality to redirect an incoming email message to other recipients.
- Meeting invitation functionality is improved. This update improves creating meeting invitations by including a list of recently used locations.
Technology Facebook gets one right
Social media participation is crucial in the 2011 business world. We must partake in Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blogs, and the list goes on.
A little while ago, Facebook became a little more clumsy when it got rid of the Go To Page feature. Instead of one button, we had to click on Accounts, Use Facebook as Page, and then the applicable Page. Or, you could type the name into the search bar, which was still more annoying than it had been. I get cheesed any time there are extra steps involved where fewer used to suffice. Well, I’ll learn to be more patient in the future because the Use Facebook as Page feature is now pretty cool.
When you choose to switch to a page, you are no longer operating Facebook as your personal self, you become the company. You are notified if there are any new Likes in the same space of the toolbar where friend requests come up. It also gives notifications for new posts and comments on your wall. This is the best part.
The wall was no longer listing chronologically and posts would be buried or go unnoticed because they weren’t at the top of the pile. Now, Facebook tells us what’s going on. Awesome.
Albeit, what it makes better should not have been difficult in the first place, but it dramatically cuts down on Facebook surfing time, combing old posts to make sure the convo is kosher, (something both an employer and a busy employee will appreciate) and makes sure you can participate in the conversation people are having about your company.
So, communicate away!
Happy 7th birthday to us!
Seven years ago today, Steve officially began his journey to leave the corporate world and started working for himself at Infomatix. Since then, he has learned how to simplify his life by creating foolproof organizational systems that have been able to help countless other people simplify their businesses.
Infomatix is now proud to have a client list that extends from coast to coast and deals in a wide spectrum of business. Our expertise ranges from Information Technology to English grammar and if we don’t already have a way to help you, we’ll find a solution so you don’t have to waste energy trying different alternatives.
In the last seven years, our team has grown, our office has gotten bigger, and we’ve found how to have more time to stop and smell the roses instead of worrying over the unimportant things.
We are making a special offer to mark the occasion. Since you all couldn’t make it to our birthday party, we are inviting you to celebrate with two offers:
- begin any new project and you’ll receive 10% off the services portion; and,
- when you refer a friend who becomes an InviStructure Formula client, you will receive a shiny new iPad2!
The offers are good between now and April 30, 2011.
Thank you for being a part of our success so far, and we look forward to making you a part of our future. So, grab a slice of cake and take a few minutes to think about your success over the last few years and dream of ways to make the next year your best yet!
- Steve, Freddie, and Angie
P.S. Thanks so much to Geri Coady (@hellogeri) who created the fantastic artwork for our birthday celebration - great job Geri! Check out more of her work on Dribble and Flickr.
